Rolled Pillowcase with French Seams Instructions
Fabric measurements: Body of pillowcase: width of fabric (WOF) by 27.5
Trim: (optional) WOF by 1.75” or 2”
Cuff: WOF by 9.5
1. Fold Trim in half length-wise, RS showing, and iron.
2. Lay cuff on table, RS up. Lay out horizontally.
3. Lay folded trim on top of upper raw edge.
4. Lay body of case, RS down, on top of trim, matching top raw edge. If body has directional fabrics, pay attention to the direction.
5. Pin along top edge, making sure all fabrics are caught in the pins.
6. Start rolling from the bottom of the body, all the way towards the top, until the roll is in the center of the cuff.
7. Take the bottom edge of the cuff and roll this OVER the ‘rolled body’ and pin cuff to all other ‘pinned’ fabrics. You now have a tube. Do not be concerned about the WOF not being exactly the same on all fabrics – this will be trimmed following the next step.
8. Sew a ¼” (one quarter inch) seam along the pinned edge.
9. Unpin and slowly start to pull the inner fabrics out of the tube – peel it like a banana if it gets tough to pull out.
10. Trim sides of pillowcase even.
French seams:
1. Fold in half, wrong sides together, and sew ¼” down the side and along the bottom. You may at this point, choose to trim the seam to 1/8”. If you do this, you can sew the next seam at ¼”.
2. Trim off corner, turn inside out, and iron. Now sew 3/8” seam down the side and along the bottom.
3. Turn inside out. Just check for any stray threads along the outside seam.
